Lesson 6: Design Your Dream Relationship
Transits Through the Love Houses

When a planet transits through one of the love houses (5th, 7th or 8th), it’s like a visitor walking through a room. The transiting planet and the house will blend their energies for a set amount of time. This is similar to the way a natal planet will decorate the "space" of a house, as you learned in Lesson 2. But unlike the natal planet, which is a permanent resident, the transiting planet is a temporary visitor—kind of like an Airbnb guest or a renter. They'll unpack their bags and maybe paint a few walls but at the end of their stay, their influence will wane.
Because houses are uniquely sized in every chart (their width is based on how close to the Equator you were born) the amount of time each planet spends in a house will vary for every individual. To interpret anything involving houses, you will need to know your birth time—or the time of birth of the person whose chart you are analyzing.
For example, let's say stoic Saturn is transiting your 7th house of marriage. If your houses are fairly equal in size, the planet is likely to journey through that realm for approximately 3 years. During that window of time, you may get serious about relationships or feel the need to put more structure into your approach to dating or partnerships.
On the other hand, if spontaneous Uranus transits through your 7th house, you may buck the tide of tradition. The formal rules of dating and marriage may feel restrictive or you may feel the need for more autonomy or adventure in your partnership. If you have fairly equal-sized houses, a Uranus transit will last for around seven years in each house.
Side note: In solar astrology, such as the horoscopes you read on our website, we place your Sun sign in the first house, and count around the zodiac from there. This is a broad strokes interpretation system—and one that we believe in wholeheartedly—yet it is a different type of house reading from the natal charts we are studying in this course.
